I worked as a nanny to an adorable five-year old girl during my university years. After a while, I decided to try something besides the traditional biscuits and sugary snacks as an after-school snack. I wanted to give her something that was delicious, but also healthy.
My first attempt was a healthy type of rice cake, but my young ward clearly didn’t enjoy it, and requested her normal sweet biscuit. I tried a different rice cake the following day, which the girl seemed to really enjoy, but the ingredients included quite a few additives and preservatives, which is what I was trying to avoid.
I also understood that some of the most delicious choices were anything but healthy and that people who cared about health regularly checked the ingredients and nutritional facts on packages. Seeing a long list of preservatives and chemical ingredients was hardly attractive, but without them the taste always seemed to disappear. Then, inspiration struck…would it be possible to create a snack with a powerfully good flavour without putting additives into the mix to boost the taste?
I thought back to my childhood, and the traditional and natural snack I had eaten so often – made right in my hometown in Thailand, and remembered these were once eaten by warriors in old Siam. I decided to take the idea and make it into a reality; creating a rice cracker that equally balanced nutrition and taste. It started small, my husband – Andy and I made the first few batches. We were far from professional chefs, and the process was slow. However, after endless tweaking and perfecting, the first version of Neat’s was born.
Everyone’s reaction was overwhelming – they loved the rice crackers! We have worked tirelessly to improve the quality even more.
Now, it’s time for you to enjoy this new take on an old classic. We can’t wait to hear what you think!
